We wrapped up our book clubs with a final discussion and scholars handed in their text analysis projects.  It has been marvelous to see their growth and understanding of the world.  We then did a flash fiction unit with an emphasis on beginnings, dialogue, and exploding the moment in regular English, and 200, 100, and 25 or 6  word stories.  Next week is mostly focused on Urban Challenge.

  • Read 2 hours + outside of English every week

After completing the Overcoming Obstacles Book Club Unit, we are turning to developing our writing skills. We will be doing a short Creative Writing Unit during which your student will develop skills such as setting the scene, dialogue, and figurative language.  Students will be asked to write a 250 word story fragment daily.  Ultimately, your student will pick the one to revise and turn it in as a Summative Grade.

Students are still expected to read 20 minutes per day independently outside of class.
