Thank you so much to all who were able to donate snacks as we made it through Forward testing,, the students really appreciated them as did I..  While this time of year is unlike any other time in our classroom, I was still so proud of our scholars.  The test is long but they rose to the challenge, many took a long time with it and gave it their best.  I appreciate them so much.

We are kicking off book clubs now with an inquiry question of who gets to have the American dream.  Scholars had their groups revealed and selected their books today.

Deadlines:

  • 6th reading goal due May 13th

  • Read 2 hours + every week

  • Book clubs kick off Monday - read your pages and be prepared

Questions to ask:

  • Who is in your book club group?  Which book are you hoping to read?

  • What is the American dream?

  • How did you do on the Forward exam?

  • What are your goals for 4th quarter?

We are doing Forward Testing this week.  Next week, we will be beginning a Book Club unit focused on Overcoming Obstacles.  Each student will be in a small reading group in which they will need to complete at least one novel (of their choice) over the next few weeks.  They will set a reading schedule but will have a substantial amount of reading to do outside the classroom daily.  They will have both formative and assessments on a weekly basis tied to their reading.

(Stoller)

This week, we focused on the background of WWII and how the end of the war led to the Cold War.  Next week, we’ll take an in depth look at the Berlin Wall, how and why it was built and the outcomes.
