An unexpected week but I know that the scholars were in the best of hands with Mr. Eveland.  I am excited to be back next week when I am out of quarantine from this second round with COVID.

Book clubs kicked off this week and the kids rose to the occasion, we dove into wealth inequality, the minimum wage, and also started our discussion about the American dream.

Deadlines:

  • 6th reading goal due May 13th

  • Read 2 hours + every week

  • Be prepared for discussion

  • Edpuzzle - Minimum Wage due the 20th

  • Edpuzzle - Global Wealth Inequality due the 20th

Questions to ask:

  • How do you like your book so far?

  • How did your first discussion go?

  • What are your thoughts on the minimum wage?

  • What are ideas you have for navigating the global wealth inequity - is it up to us to change it?

We wrapped up our unit about the Cold War which included learning about post WWII ideologies and the Berlin Wall.  We wil spend next week looking at how this led to the creation of the European Union.

Questions

  • What is the difference between how people lived in East Germany and West Germany?

  • Why was Berlin split in two?  How did that play out over the Cold War?

  • Who built the Berlin wall?  Where and why?

  • How did the wall come down?  What was the outcome of the wall coming down?

  • How did the Cold War help lead to the start of the European Union?

  • What is the European Union?  Why does it exist?
