We got back into the groove with book club discussions and thinking further about the implication of wealth inequality.  Scholars created a spreadsheet of what their future dreams might cost, I think it was eye opening for many.  We all revisited theme, the hidden rules and expectations of society, and how to use your evidence better.

Deadlines:

  • 6th reading goal due May 13th

  • Read 2 hours + every week

  • Be prepared for discussion

  • Edpuzzle - US prisons due the 27th

  • Text analysis project due May 3rd

Questions to ask:

  • How did your second discussion go?

  • How much would your dream cost you?

  • Which text project did you choose - digital or paer?

  • How have you liked your book club book?

We are in our second week of Overcoming Obstacles Book Club.  By the end of this week, your students should have completed ⅔ of their Book by this Friday.  Keeping up with their reading is critically important as over the next two weeks your student will have two summative (important) tied directly to their reading.

Additionally, we are going to have a short unit on the rules of capitalization as I’m noticing that many students are struggling with the writing conventions.

Geography

(Stoller)

We spent a couple of days learning about North and South Korea and making connections to Germany after WWII.  We are now learning about how the European Union grew out of the post WWII era.

Questions

  • What is in between the Koreas that is similar to the Berlin Wall?

  • How did the European Union begin?

  • What is the purpose of the EU?

  • What are some of the options for being part of the EU?

Small Group Schedule

Our May 12th concert repertoire is coming together and the students are sounding so amazing! They have learned so much: chord symbols, accidentals, intervals, swing style, etc.

I will email details about our collaborative “Rhythm and Groove” concert with OHS orchestras and guest artist, Katie Ernst within the upcoming week.
