English - Gunst

We are beginning to focus on memoirs and personal essays in class.  Their first significant writing assignment, "How Do I...." has been completed and they will be receiving feedback and a grade shortly.  It is fantastic to see so many of your kids embracing independent reading and I have been so impressed by their interest and kindness. On Thursday, they will be assigned a 6-word memoir in class.  Please ask them to share their work with you.

Always ask them what they are reading and if they are enjoying it.  Thanks for all you do.

English - Ripp:
We have been diving into memoir and personal essays by reading about other people's experiences and reflecting on our own lives.  The students created 6-word memoirs, which are now on display outside of our room. To see a picture of them, go to our Facebook page.
Deadlines:
Day 14 - Personal essay question sheet due tonight
Day 15 - Personal essay question due Monday
How Do I re-takes due by October 7th

Questions to ask:
-  What was your 6-word memoir?
-  What is the difference between a memoir and a personal essay?

Spanish (Landsverk):

We are approaching our first Spanish quiz! Students should be studying 5-10 minutes daily on their vocabulary Quizlet, link on Google Classroom, in order to prepare for next Tuesday/Wednesday. Students should also check Infinite Campus for late work as retakes will not be considered until missing work has been completed.

Orchestra
Bill's grocery receipts are a easy and wonderful way to contribute to Friends Of The Orchestra (FOTO) and have helped us raise thousands of dollars for supplemental educational experiences for orchestra students. Send them in with students to place in our basket in the Orchestra classroom!

Fall Concert is Oct. 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Oregon High School's PAC.
Concert dress is all black (a more detailed description of appropriate concert attire will be sent out later this week through Infinite Campus).

Questions to ask:
How do you feel you did on the formative peer/self assessment on the D minor scale this week?
How is a D minor scale different from a D major scale?

Choir:
I am still looking for the uniform contracts/signature pages from the choir handbook.  Please check IC to see if your student has turned it in yet!
Choir students' sight singing assessment pre-test was due on Wednesday of this week.  This was formative work to find out student's current level of sight singing fluency.

Questions to ask:
How do you think you did on your sight singing pre-test?
What is your favorite song so far in choir?  Why do you like it?

Geography (Stoller):  Students created Inquiry Journals this week and will use them through next week as we explore creating a culture of inquiry and argument.  We will use these skills all year long and the journals will pop back up throughout the year for writing our thoughts, questions and opinions.  We reviewed Dream Classroom grades and discussed the procedure to retakes.
