English (Ripp) | We continued our work on our nonfiction picture books, if your scholar has not shared their with you, please ask them to. Next week the books will be shared around the world with 1st and 3rd-grade classrooms eager to leave our scholars feedback. It has been a lot of fun to see scholars tap into this type of writing. Next up is exploring poetry.
We continued our focus on Black excellence, scholars were invited to read more picture books, as well as learn about important people within our history. This week we focused on Michelle Obama, Malcolm X, Althea Gibson, and Claudette Colvin.
Please look for any books that are at home, many books are missing ad we would love them back on the shelves. If you would like to donate a lost book to our classroom, please see this wishlist.

English (Gunst) | We are wrapping the challenging Nonfiction Poetry Unit up. By next week, your student will have written and illustrated a 20 plus page nonfiction picture book that will be shared with 1st and 2nd graders. This will be an impressive accomplishment by your student. Well Done!
Next week, we will be starting a Poetry Unit that will last approximately 3 weeks. During the unit they will learn aspects of language such as rhythm and sensory language. Additionally, they will be asked to break down and analyze poetry as well as creating their own poetry.
Remember your student still needs to be reading their Independent Reading Book 20 minutes outside of class. |
