It was an exciting week at OMS with an ice day and the courage retreat. We hope scholars felt that they had a good experience and that they walked away with ideas and tools for how they can build their everyday courage. It was pretty awesome to see so many kids get a chance to interact, to speak up, and also to connect with people they may not have connected with before.

English (Gunst) | We are in the 2nd week of our Poetry Unit. The unit is focusing on three aspects of figurative language. First, we continue our exploration of Figurative Language. Second, we have begun to analyze poems, a very important skill that will be useful in developing reading comprehension skills. Finally, students are exploring and creating different types of poems.
Please remember to encourage your students to continue with their independent reading requirements - 20 minutes of reading outside of class. |
Geography (Stoller) | We have reworked our schedule a bit and will start our genocide unit next week. This is a tough topic but our students have historically learned so much and appreciated the opportunity to tackle real world topics, digging into how it affects them and what they can do to make it better.
Questions Who are the janjaweed? Why are their actions surprising? What is the conflict in Sudan really about? How did the world react? What happened? What is the UN and what was its role in finding a solution? Did they do enough? Why or why not?
