Today concludes the 2nd quarter, as well as the 1st semester of 7th grade. We have seen so much growth, we have relished our connections with the students and you, and we are excited for the next two quarters to see how else we can support these learners as they grow with us.
Just a reminder that there is no school this Monday as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. Health now takes over for art as we welcome Mr. Darren Hartberg as your learner’s teacher. Questions to ask:How did your speech go?How did you use what you know about persuasion in your speech? What, if anything, did you learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that you didn't already know? Students have around 5 weeks of class time before their performances, whether they have chosen to play in class or at the Saturday festival, and should be carving out regular practice time at home to prepare. Students who have chosen to perform their projects in class will present them the week of February 24-28th. Students who have elected to perform at the WSMA Solo/Ensemble District Festival will be performing on Saturday, February 29th at Verona High School. Here is a checklist document that helps students plan their practice for this event over a longer period of time. *Note: Students who have elected to perform at the Solo/Ensemble Festival on 2/29 may not miss more than 2 small groups between January and February (make ups are allowed). Ask your student: what are your top priority goal spots to practice in your solo/ensemble piece?

We continue with our study of religions of the world in an effort to understand other people and their beliefs. Students usually really like this unit because it's concrete and they often learn about themselves in the process. Things to ask your learner:
*Which of the religions are the 'Big 3' for the western world and what do they have in common?
*What is the difference between monotheism and polytheism? Which religion(s) are which?)
*What does the expression "Jake's Kids" mean and which religion does it describe? What did the video explain to us about this?
*What is unusual about Buddhism when we talk about religions in general? How can people incorporate elements of Buddhism into other religions or belief systems?
*Where is Hinduism practiced and what are some of the interesting beliefs of this religion? Who came to our class and shared about India?
Gunst- We are wrapping up the semester by completing our Research module and Book Talks.
