Newsletter December 20th, 2019

We wanted to take another moment to thank you so much for all of your support during this year.  We are excited to kick of 2020 with these great learners and look forward to continuing our partnership.  The end of the 2nd quarter is coming up on January 17th, whereafter standards grades, as well as letter grades for most classes will be entered.

If you need us to meet or just would like extra communication, please reach out.

Also, a reminder that OMS is cellphone free from bell to bell for students.  If you need to get a hold of your learner, please go through the office so they can get the message to them.

English - Ripp
Deadlines:
All work should be wrapped up before break so that kids can just read a great book over break.
Yahara:  Some students have decided to continue working on Yahara while others are done.

Questions to ask:
  • How did you grow as a thinker in your book club?
  • Will you be continuing your work with Yahara?
  • How can you discover symbolism when you watch movies or read texts?
  • What are your reading plans for break?

We have wrapped up the Dystopian Unit before Christmas Break.  Please encourage your student to keep reading their independent reading book.
Yahara:  Some students have decided to continue working on Yahara while others are done.  Happy Holidays!
Spanish (Landsverk):

Retakes slips from some students have been turned in. Students who have submitted a retake slip have until Friday to retake the quiz. Students are finishing McFarland USA, so packets (for the summative grade) are due before break. Holiday summatives are also due before break and have been marked "missing" as a reminder for students to submit the work.

German - Wochenske
Deadlines:
If you are missing any work or if any work is marked as IE in Quarter 2, please take care of it before break. Otherwise, all work is due on the last day of the quarter, which is January 17.
Questions to ask:
To what extent are you actively participating in German in class?
If you don't understand something that is said or a concept, how do you let Frau Wochenske know?

Stoller (Geography):
We wrapped up our 5 Themes unit this week.  Upon our return, we will start our Asia unit which begins with looking at the Middle East.  Winter Break is a wonderful time to check IC and make up any work needed. Our class webpage under 'what we did today' has links to each day's assignments and notes, etc.  It's a great resource for students and families.

Art - Touhey
Check out our finished ceramic projects and value drawings on Artsonia.
We will be starting printmaking in January.

Orchestra
On Friday Orchestra students have invited any OMS staff or students to help us jump into winter break with cheerful music!  Orchestra students have prepared numerous tunes for the OMS community's listening enjoyment and have strengthened our sight reading skills while doing so! I am still accepting candy donations for this Friday. Thanks to all families who have sent in candy thus far.

Students should plan to take instruments and music home over break to get in some meaningful practice time. Ask your learner to play what they have been working on for you.
