English (Ripp)
We continued our review of the year of standards 1, 2, 3, and 5.  It was wonderful to see the deeper understanding that the children have now as compared to earlier in the year.  We also continued our discussion of who we are as readers, and also how others influence us.
We will be taking the Forward exam most of this week and then have our second to last speech due on Friday sharing what the best book of 7th grade as been.

Integrated Literacy (Bures):
Students did an amazing job researching, writing, practicing, and performing their TED talks. All students have access to their own videos. I encourage you to check them out! Next week Integrated Literacy and Tech Tools are combining for a anti-bullying project.

Geography (Stoller):
This week the students started learning about different types of government. They began the week with an in-class activity where they were instructed to create their own governments. It was a fun experience. They learned the difference between a representative democracy, direct democracy, dictatorship and dictators, monarchies, theocracies, and anarchies. Friday, they were assigned the rest of their packet that will be due Monday. Next week, they will do a few more activities to ensure they understand the material. Early in the week, they will begin a writing assignment. This assignment will require them to explain to me different forms of government. There will be a lot of in-class worktime for the students to obtain the help they need.
