Newsletter October 2nd, 2015

Thursday is the big day!  We will be heading downtown for our Urban Challenge.  Students have done some simple challenges with their teams and will continue to plan for this event all day Tuesday and Wednesday during school hours.  We are really impressed with all of our sharks! Please be sure that, on Thursday, your student is wearing tennis shoes, a tie-dye red shark shirt (shirts will be handed out Wednesday), and is ready for any weather that my pop up.  Some teams will choose to bring a sack lunch.  Other teams will be bringing money to purchase lunch along the way.  Students will also have the opportunity to purchase ice cream during the day.  This promises to be a really fun learning experience and we are sure we will have lots of stories to tell!

Tuesday through Friday of next week, students will primarily focus on Urban Challenge activities.  They will still have their Encore classes (music, world language, art, Lit Skills) and a few students will have math and English.  This is a great time to use study halls for catching up on missing work and doing retakes because there will be very little new work assigned.

Upcoming Deadlines and Projects:
October 5th - Part function quiz (Spaeth)
October 7th - Enders Game read through chapter 13 (Westrich English)
October 8th - Urban Challenge all day
October 9th - Word Work - List 14 - (Westrich English)
October 12th - 5 Themes of Geography Project due (Stoller and Howe)
October 16th - Youth Frontier Courage Retreat

Things to ask about:

  • We had some guests from Russia in class on Thursday.  Ask your student what (s)he learned about that country.
  • Today and Monday, we are working with Madison maps (downtown map and Madison Metro map) in preparation for Urban Challenge.  Due to these activities, the 5 Themes project deadline has been extended.  New due date will be published after Urban Challenge.  Students can still work during study hall but unless they are going for a 4, do not need to be working at home.

Ripp (English)
