Deadlines and News from 7-O

Our end of year auction is coming up! Students have been earning CARE cash all year long to spend during the auction. We are looking for donations to help supply the prizes for this culminating activity.    We have sent letters to many local businesses but a personal contact sometimes seals the deal. To assist in this endeavor, we have a general letter that can be used.  Students were introduced to this idea and know that they can see Ms. Stoller to sign up for a business to which they would like to make a personal 'ask' IF they would like to.  (We don't want to inundate any one business.)

Additionally, sometimes parents donate directly, either a prize (gift card to favorite restaurant or store, or a monetary donation) or make an inquiry at their place of employment.  If you would like to do so, please use this letter.  If you have questions, please contact Ms. Stoller at lms3@oregonsd.net

This week, please ask your child about:

Science:
Students are finishing up the Plants Unit with the unit test today (Friday).  We will be harvesting seeds from our Fast Plants projects next week and recording data.  Our next unit will be Genetics which is always interesting to students in that they find out more about life and how it takes on it's various forms. Kids are especially interested in things that involve themselves.  Genetics opens up discussions about what makes all of us different and unique...genetic variation, inheritance and more.

Tech Tools:
  • What's a meme?
  • What projects do they plan on using tech tool time for?
  • How will they be displaying their work?
Math (Stauss)
  • What 3D shape have we talked about this week?
  • How do you find the volume and surface area of that shape?
  • Do you need to complete test corrections and when are they do?

Geography (Stoller)
  • What is apartheid?  Who is Nelson Madela?  What was the importance of the World Cup Rugby game in South Africa?
  • Ask to see your child's Europe maps.  Have him/her tell you some information from the map. (Ex: France is north of Spain.  Rome is the capital of Italy.) Or ask some questions. (Ex: What two physical features form the border between Europe and Asia?  What country's capital is located at 51N, 15E?)
  • Where is Denmark in honor of Mrs. Ripp's birth place?
English (Ripp):
  • Are they ready to give their speech on Monday?
  • How do they want to be remembered?
  • What book are they reading right now?
  • What makes a great speaker?
  • What is the Jabberwocky?
