We had a great Fun Run this morning with all of our 7-O Sharks and every student at OMS. Students also had the opportunity to see some of their classmates shine as Rising Stars were awarded at our assembly. This afternoon, students enjoyed some time as a team, playing games and having fun as part of our 1st quarter CARE activity. We will have another opportunity like this at the end of January when 2nd quarter ends. Students remain eligible to participate if they are demonstrating proficiency in all subject areas and making good choices about behavior. We can’t wait to take everyone on our next adventure….the bowling alley!
Geography (Stoller): Students had the opportunity to explore different types of maps this week. They learned how to find information on various maps and also about the types of map projections. They will have a quiz on this next Wednesday. We will then move into Latitude and Longitude.
Technology Tools
The sharks have switched from FACE class to Technology Tools class for the 2nd quarter. In Tech Tools class students will learn many technology related skills. We start off the year with "Master My Location"! This is in a game format where students complete "tasks" to "level up". They will review how to make folders on the network drive and google drive, find and save images legally, use easybib.com to cite images, and finally they will create a google drawing with images and citations. They become a "Ninja" when they have mastered all the levels and complete the "game". Please let me know if you have any questions throughout this quarter. My email is jsh@oregonsd.net and my phone is 835-4832.
English (Ripp)
A new quarter means we switch our focus to non-fiction. Students are working on comprehension and writing about non-fiction texts, as well as telling the stories of their birth or adoption. We have worked through a sample THIEVES sheet and deconstructed more standards. What I love the most is how much more comfortable students seem about taking control of their learning journey and pushing themselves. Next week brings the book fair to OMS as well as our next big project. We also got more new books this week.
