Team Notes: THANK YOU for your donations to the auction! We are sending home thank you notes with students, so please check in with them. Sometimes those kinds of things get lost at the bottom of backpacks, unfortunately!
Next week is the last week of school. Here are some highlights:
WED: Locker clean out! Send extra bags with your student so they can take stuff home. Students will also receive yearbooks at the end of the day.
THURS: Kalahari! Remember, the school will not be held responsible for any electronics or possessions students bring along, so plan accordingly. We will return from the Kalahari around 5:00, so please arrange to pick your student up at that time.
FRI: Half day of school and auction! :)
English (Totzke): This week was a fun week of reflection and sharing as we read our This I Believe essays with one another! It's been a great week of sharing. We do not have any more summatives in English, so please encourage your student to check IC and retake anything less than a 2! Happy Reading!

Geography (Vruwink for Stoller): Students completed their final map of the year - writing in Australia's physical and political features! Students should have their Australia maps completed by Monday, as that's when they'll take their final map quiz. We also watched a documentary on the Australian Aborigine culture. It was a beautiful film of an intriguing people. Learn more about it here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/men-fifth-world/. On Monday, students will also take a short summative on the Australia presentation from 2 weeks ago (they have a note packet from which they can study for this). Lastly, next week students have the opportunity to end the year in Geography by watching the video,Crocodile Dundee. If you would prefer that your student not watch this video, please email Mr. Vruwink or Mrs. Manzeck.
Geography (Howe):
Math (Stauss): During math class this week we learned about different types of sampling plans and which plans represent the population the best. Next week students will start taking a quiz on Monday, and they will finish it on Tuesday. The quiz is on sections 2.1 through 2.4 from our current unit Samples and Populations. Students also have until next week Wednesday to complete corrections on all summatives.
Math (Krueger): See separate IC email and blog post
Science (Rockwell for vanSteenderen): We are wrapping up our Natural Selection unit in Science. This week, students learned about the evidences of evolution: fossils, amber, homolygous structures, vestigial structures and embryological structures. Along with the evidences, students learned about speciation through the evolution of the Galapagos Island Finches. Learn more about the finches here: http://www.fossilmuseum.net/Evolution/DarwinsFinches.htm. While I know it's the last week, student will take their final Science summative next week, and thus should spend some time studying this weekend. The final summative will cover both the Genetics and Natural Selection units.
