Newsletter February 5th, 2021

We are so excited to be with your children next week either in-person or virtually.  We know it has been a lot of information to digest but we promise to figure it out together.  We encourage all scholars to set a plan for how they will work through their asynchronous work, they should not wait until the day of their class to start the work as there will be work posted for all week.

Scholars will have learning to do every day for their classes on the new scheduler whether they are virtual or rephased in, this work will be accompanied by videos and more asynchronous assignments.  It will be very important that scholars stay on top of deadlines and reach out whenever they need help in order to remain successful.

We have a shark tank study hall Monday-Friday from 2:30 - 3:30 PM.  Please come to this to receive support and help from your teachers.

Connections will be virtual for all from 2:10 to 2:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  This is still considered a class and we look forward to continuing our time together.

We finished our poetry unit this week with a poetry collection summative.  We hope this project has offered students a chance to think about the ways poetry shapes our lives, found some poetry they could connect to, and also write poetry they could be proud of.

We are starting our TED talk unit next week, students will have two modules to work through each week.  One due on Wednesday morning, another Friday afternoon.  There will be videos embedded into the lessons for them to watch before they do the work.  This will be where the majority of NEW teaching will happen.  We will spend time together supporting their learning, doing extensions activities, building community and supporting their reading life in our “live” time.

Deadlines:

  • Read 20 minutes every day

  • Poetry Collection summative - due today

  • Module 1 - Wednesday 8 AM

Questions to ask:

  • May I see your poetry collection?

  • What questions do you have about the change in English?
