Newsletter for September 14th

It was another wonderful week here in the shark tank.  Work is starting to be assigned more so it may be a good idea to check to see that your learner has a planner and that they are using it.  They are expected to have one to use for all of their classes.

It’s Oregon Homecoming next week!  All kids are encouraged to dress up to show their spirit.
Multiples Monday - Gather a Twin, Triplets or More and Dress Alike for Our Monday Spirit Day!
Two Decade Tuesday - 7th Graders Represent the 1970’s!
Wednesday - Team Color, Shirt & Animal Day 7O = Red/Sharks
Thursday - Future Career Day Dress Like You Will For the Job That You Hope to Have Someday!
Friday - Panther pride - Orange & Black Day

Urban Challenge is coming up on October 11th.  This is our only field trip where we need chaperones for the year.  So if you are interested please contact Mrs. Ripp.
Date:  October 11th and morning of October 12th (optional)
Time:  October 1tth: 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, if you can join us on Oct 12th it is from 7:55 to about 8:30 AM
What:  Supervise a team of 7-O students as they navigate Madison.
Note:  You will not be placed with your own learner as this can affect the team.

Geography (Stoller): 
Students are learning how to do a Current Event assignment.  Every student has a different due date for the quarter but only the last day of the quarter will show up in IC.  We are doing a practice one together this week and into next. We also take some time to learn about how to be successful in 7th grade.
Ask your learner:
*When is your current event due? (should be written in the planner and on their Current Event sheet.)
*What are options for finding an article to present? (List provided on the hyper doc)
*What do you have to help you complete this assignment?  (Hyper doc with instructions and resources)

English - Bures
-How do you situate yourself in a challenging text?
-What ideas do you have for your memoir?

English - Ripp
Deadlines:  Best Draft Memoir due Friday the 21st
Questions to ask:
-  What are grade level expectations for analysis work?

Spanish (7th grade) - Landsverk:
Deadlines:  None
Next week (week 3) for 7th grade (orange and black) we will be starting Unit 1 vocabulary and how to ask and answer questions in Spanish. So no quiz this week!

Math (Poch)
Ask about how the first few units are going to Math 8. What are they learning about? What types of experiments have you been doing?

Math-Gratzl

Math STAR Testing on Wednesday, September 19th
Shapes and Designs Quiz on Friday, September 21st

Questions to ask your child:
-What is the difference between complementary angles and supplementary angles?
-What is the sum of the interior angle measures of a triangle?  Quadrilateral? Pentagon?

7th Grade Art (Touhey)
Ask your student about the differences between using the left and right side of the brain when trying to draw something.

German- Brudos
Ask your student any interesting facts they learned about Germany or have them explain and give an example of a word that is a cognate.

Orchestra
Small Group Learning will begin next week (Sept 17-21). Schedules will be sent via Infinite Campus and distributed to students in class on Thursday and Friday of this week.
