Newsletter April 24, 2017

With Forward testing mostly behind us, we are back to normal for the next six weeks of 7th grade.  Thank you also to all of you who came to student-led conferences.  We were witnesses to many powerful conversations and hope you found value in them as well.

School Deadlines:
Art show this Thursday in the OMS Library 6 PM

English (Ripp):
Deadlines:  Word work 5 due this Thursday - final one of the year

We are starting book clubs this week, they will go for three weeks and students will have two projects tied in with them.
Please help your learner look for missing books at home, we have lost a lot of books this year and surely some of them may be under a bed on a shelf at someones house.

Questions to ask:
How do you feel about book clubs?
Which book are you hoping to read?
How many pages do you read ever week - 7th grade expectations are about 150-200 pages a week with a comfortable book.

Math (Poch):
Ask your child about the Say It With Symbols summative. How did it go? Did you struggle on any parts? If so, what could you have done to change it and what are the steps you will take to retake. Starting new unit Monday.

Science (Howe):
Which bird "beak" worked the best to pick up food in our lab today?

Geography (Stoller):
Students explored Europe last week using the 5 Themes as a structure.  Ask your learner for 3 human and 3 physical characteristics in Europe, where they are and why they are important.  You can also ask to where your student would like to travel/visit and why!  Next week, we start looking at the outcomes of WWII and the Cold War and how that lead into the European Union.

Math (Gratzl):
Math Deadlines:  Quiz Friday, April 28th

Questions for your students about math class:
-How do you find the volume of a rectangular prism with the dimensions of 10cm, 10cm and 10cm?
