Newsletter February 12th, 2016

We are well under way into our third semester and many larger projects are starting up.  This is typically the time of year where we try to give the students more independence, so please let us know if your child seems more confused or needs help advocating for themselves.

Upcoming Deadlines and Projects:
February 15th- Map Quiz (Stoller)
February 18th - Quiz Corrections for the Moving Straight Ahead Quiz (Gratzl)
February 19th - Word work 4 due (Ripp)
February 19th - Summative (Westrich)
March 7th - Signpost project (Ripp)

Geography (Stoller):
Students took a slightly more in-depth look at one Asian country.  Ask your child which country (s)he studied and what was learned!  Next week, we will be looking at photos of assigned countries and doing some writing to explain their importance.  Monday: Maps quiz!  Students need their completed Asia AND Middle East maps.

English (Ripp)
We launched book clubs, word work 4, and the signpost project this week.,  Ask your child about:
  • Which book are they reading for their book club and how it is going?
  • What are their plans for the signpost project and what is a signpost?
  • What is their weekly page goal for reading?

Math (Gratzl)
Deadlines:  Corrections on the Moving Straight Ahead Quiz are due next week Thursday

Questions to ask your child about math:
What are the steps to solve this equation:  4x + 2 = 2x + 8?  What is your final answer after completing the steps?
What is the coefficient in this equation:  d = 2.5 * t?

Bures:
This week students worked with Mrs. Quast. They discussed challenging biases and being respectful to everyone. Ask your students about the experience.
