Team Notes: If you have any donations you’d like to contribute to the end-of-year CARE cash auction, you can send them to Ms. Brian (Totzke). In the past, prizes have included sporting equipment, pro/Oregon clothing, gift cards to favorite stores and restaurants, ‘toys’, lotions/soaps/etc, large candy bags/items, and soda. Thank you again for your continued help and support of our reward programs!
English (Totzke): Students analyzed a speech and started to organize their own information into persuasive speeches this week. We also analyzed introductions. Next week we’ll finalize our speeches and practice giving them. The following week we’ll be presenting! Please check in with your student regarding their progress. All students should have their evidence chosen and backing written to explain how their evidence supports their claim.

Geography (Vruwink for Stoller): Students studied the Berlin Wall in Geography this week. Specifically, students heard about the differences between the communist east side and democratic west side; about the 4 stages of building the wall; about it's fall in 1989 and much more. If you're interested, or your student wants more, visit this site: http://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/berlin-wall
Geography (Howe):
Math (Stauss): In math class this week we learned about how the radius, diameter, circumference and area relate within a circle. On Thursday, students showed their understanding of the material by creating their own word problems involving parts of a circle. Once they made their problems, they had to solve them while showing all their work. On Friday, students learned about finding the surface area of a cylinder. This coming week students will learn how to find the volume of cylinders, spheres and cones. Next week Wednesday quiz corrections are due on our Filling and Wrapping Quiz.
Math (Krueger): See separate IC email and blog post
Science (Rockwell for vanSteenderen): Students studied the pedigree of England's royal family this week, specifically looking at how hemophilia was passed through the 7 generations. Towards the end of the week, students created an e-bug! In the e-bug activity, students were able to see how dominant and recessive genes worked together to determine a 'baby's' traits (color in this case).
Science (Howe):
Tech Tools (Shumaker): In Tech Tools class students were introduced to 3D printing from Nathan Patterson, owner of Radiant Fabrication. The classes really think we need a 3D scanner/printer! Students should have finished 2 summative assignments (summative moviemaker and Comics Assignment). On Monday, their meograph is due! They have also been working on some "book trailers" for the elementary school. Busy, busy, busy!
