Team Notes: Second quarter grades are posted on Infinite Campus today! Students with IE (Insufficient evidence) for a standard have two weeks to get the work in to get a grade, which is February 14. Please encourage your student to get the work done, if needed.
English (Totzke): We continued reading our books this week, and we are almost finished! Next week we have a summative discussion (part 1 of 2) and our last three reading days. I will be gone to the Wisconsin State Reading Association Convention Thursday and Friday, and while I’m gone the students will be finishing up their books. If your child is looking for the daily Reflections at the end of each reading day or the reading schedule, you can find them on my website:

Geography (Vruwink for Stoller): Students used the CIA World Factbook to learn about various countries in Africa. Students were able to look at their country's political, economic, and social information. Along with their study of the country, students are filling in both the political and physical maps of Africa. Finally, students took a quiz on the Introduction to Africa presentation that they took notes on last week.
Geography (Howe): Friday marks the end of student workdays for our China project. Students have spent the last week plus brainstorming research topics and creating presentations to share out with the class. Each student or group will be considered an "expert" on their topic. All have been working diligently and I'm excited to see the end results.
Math (Stauss): In math class this week we learned how to write and begin to solve equations. Next week we will focus on solving multi-step equations. Quiz corrections on the quiz we took on January 23rd are due next Friday, February 7th.
Math (Krueger): See separate IC email and blog post
Science (vanSteenderen): This week in Science class we have focused on the digestive system. We have looked at the entire pathway from ingestion to excretion, tracking the food along and exploring how our body prepares the food, captures the nutrients, and excretes the waste products. To display our understanding of the gastro-intestinal system we have worked in groups on a life-sized diagram that we will use to give a presentation to the rest of the class involving everything we have learned about the process and the organs that contribute to the system.
Science (Howe): Our shortened week has led us to begin learning about our fourth body system, that of the Digestive System. Students have started to familiarize themselves with the structure and function of the digestive system, as well as the chemical processes by which food is broken down. Student will have a chance next week to use a model to walk others through the path that food takes using a model of their own creation.
FACE (Duffy): We are working hard on identifying different tools and techniques in the kitchen. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will be able to use those skills in making all sorts of wonderful things.
